How To Make Valentine Cookies
You need to follow only a few steps to make these super delicious cookies:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
- Mix together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Add butter and coconut sugar to a separate medium mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix until smooth and fluffy for about 3-5 minutes. Add egg and vanilla, and mix until smooth.
- Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, and mix well with a spatula. Add a few drops of red or pink dye to the dough and mix well. The consistency of the dough should be thick.
- Using your hands, make the balls, and slightly flatten them. Place them into a baking sheet, leaving a few inches apart between cookies. Bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes. The cookies should still be slightly soft to the touch in the middle when you take them out of the oven. Transfer to cooling racks and let cool before decorating.
- Melt the chocolate and decorate the cookies by either drizzling it over the cookies or covering the top of the cookies. Sprinkle with sprinkles immediately before the chocolate has set.
Ingredients for Valentine’s Day Cookies
- All-purpose flour. Spelt flour is also good for this recipe.
- Coconut sugar to sweeten the cookies. This sugar is unrefined, thus healthier than white sugar. Also, you can use brown sugar instead of coconut sugar. It gives the cookies the right amount of moisture.
- Butter, unsalted and softened at room temperature.
- Egg adds moisture and helps to bind the dough together. Like the butter, your egg should also be at room temperature so it will combine and bake up evenly.
- Vanilla is for flavor.
- Baking soda and baking powder. Combination of leavenings to create the perfect texture.
- White chocolate for beautiful decoration.
- Red or pink dye to make our cookies more festive. But you can skip it.
